If you become ill and require medical care, you may visit the nearest healthcare centre listed below.
Students from EU countries must present a European Health Insurance Card and two photocopies of the card. Students from non-EU countries must bring a document confirming valid health insurance in their home country, along with their passport.
Students from other countries may either arrange health insurance in Slovenia, which costs approximately EUR 110 per month, or pay for necessary medical treatment. However, we strongly recommend obtaining health insurance from an insurance company in your home country that covers periods spent abroad. You may later apply for reimbursement of medical expenses in your home country; please check the conditions with your insurance provider in advance.

Recommended Accommodation Options:
Students are required to obtain an appropriate visa or residence permit before arriving in Slovenia.
Applicants must submit their application in person at a diplomatic mission or consular post of the Republic of Slovenia.
Visa application forms are available at diplomatic missions and consular posts of the Republic of Slovenia where visa applications are submitted.
FIRST RESIDENCE PERMIT (EU citizens)
Since 1 May 2004, citizens of European Union Member States may enter the Republic of Slovenia with a valid identity card or passport, without the need for a visa or residence permit, regardless of the purpose or length of stay.
For the first three months of stay, EU citizens are not required to obtain a residence permit; however, they must register their temporary address with the police or the relevant administrative unit
(for Novo mesto: Defranceshijeva ulica 1, 8000 Novo mesto).
If the stay exceeds three months, a residence permit is mandatory and must be obtained from the competent administrative unit (for Novo mesto: Defranceshijeva ulica 1, 8000 Novo mesto). The permit is issued in accordance with EU regulations.
For study purposes, EU citizens must provide:
The residence permit is issued for the duration of studies or for a maximum of one year and may be extended if studies last longer.
FIRST RESIDENCE PERMIT (Non-EU citizens)
Third-country nationals whose citizens are required to obtain a visa must apply for a Visa C (short-term) or Visa D (long-term) at a Slovenian diplomatic mission or consulate before entering Slovenia.
For the same purposes, you may enter the Republic of Slovenia and stay there for a certain period of time (for no more than three months (90 days) within a six-month period, starting on the date of first entry) on the basis of your passport alone, provided that you are a citizen of a country whose nationals are not required to obtain a visa to enter the Republic of Slovenia. In order to stay in the Republic of Slovenia beyond the allowed 90 days or after the expiration of a Visa D, you are obliged to apply for a first residence permit at the relevant administrative unit in Slovenia (in Novo mesto: Defranceshijeva ulica 1, 8000 Novo mesto).
If you hold a valid residence permit issued by another state that is a party to the Schengen Agreement, you may enter the Republic of Slovenia on the basis of this permit and a valid travel document and stay for no longer than three months within a six-month period. This period includes the combined duration of stay in all Schengen States, except for the state that issued the permit, starting on the date of first entry into one of the Schengen States or until the expiry of the permit's validity, if this is shorter. Within the 90-day period, you are obliged to apply for a first residence permit at the relevant administrative unit in Slovenia (in Novo mesto: Defranceshijeva ulica 1, 8000 Novo mesto).
Documents required for a first residence permit (Non-EU citizens):
Holders of a Visa D are not required to apply for a residence permit during the validity of the visa but must register their temporary address within one week of arrival, if staying in private accommodation, at the relevant administrative unit in Slovenia (in Novo mesto: Defranceshijeva ulica 1, 8000 Novo mesto).

Among Dolenjska hills, less than an hour's drive by motorway from Ljubljana and Zagreb, less than two hours from the sea and the Alps, surrounded by the Krka River lies city Novo mesto. There are approximately 37,300 people living in the municipality, with over 23,000 living in the town of Novo mesto that is the seat of the municipality. Novo mesto is the seventh largest town in Slovenia and the Municipality of Novo mesto is one of the eleven Urban Municipalities in Slovenia.

Novo mesto is the administrative, economic, ecclesiastical, cultural, educational, medical and sports centre of the Southeast Region of Slovenia. It is a hub of plentiful activities, which goes far beyond the regional framework.

It is recognisable by its exceptionally successful pharmaceutical, automotive, construction, textile and other industries, as the municipality is home to large companies such as Krka, Revoz, Adria Mobil and TPV. That is why Novo mesto is called "the export capital of Slovenia".
