On Monday, 12 May 2025, the University of Novo mesto successfully opened the first day of its International Week, organised within the Erasmus+ programme. We welcomed 21 participants from numerous partner institutions across Europe who gathered to strengthen international cooperation, exchange good practices, and establish new connections.
The opening address was delivered by the Vice-Rector for Research, Prof. Dr. Karmen Erjavec, who highlighted the importance of open dialogue, mutual cooperation and the role of internationalisation in higher education. She wished the guests a pleasant stay and encouraged active participation in the joint activities. To add a lively touch to the programme, the Head of the International Office, Ms Sabina Krsnik, prepared an entertaining quiz about Slovenia and Novo mesto, where students and guests tested their knowledge of local features, history, and culture.
A key part of the day was the student-led presentation of experiences with international mobility, prepared by Slovenian and international students with the support of the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs. Through an informal discussion, they shared the student perspective on Erasmus+ exchanges and highlighted the benefits of studying abroad.
The day concluded with a guided tour of the university and a pleasant informal gathering, during which new connections were made and existing partnerships among the institutions were further strengthened.
The atmosphere was relaxed, engaging, and distinctly international, setting the stage for an excellent continuation of the week, which includes professional workshops, panel discussions and cultural events.
The second day of International Week 2025 at the University of Novo mesto focused on promoting mobility, fostering international cooperation and jointly shaping the future of higher education.
The day began with an inspiring guest lecture by Marja Koren titled Accessibility of Erasmus+ Projects, giving participants valuable insights into the opportunities that Erasmus+ offers to students, academic staff and administrative personnel. The lecture opened important discussions on equal opportunities, inclusion and accessibility within mobility programmes.
This was followed by a World Café session titled Education for the Global Labour Market. In a relaxed yet content-rich environment, participants discussed the development of a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) to be organised by the university in October 2025. Topics included strengthening global competences, youth employability, intercultural understanding, and creating inclusive learning environments.
In the afternoon, participants travelled to Ljubljana to explore the cultural heritage and contemporary pulse of the Slovenian capital. The enjoyable atmosphere continued at a joint dinner, which provided additional opportunities for networking and strengthening institutional cooperation.
Tuesday thus brought an exceptionally diverse, internationally oriented and collaborative programme that further reinforced the importance of a shared European knowledge space and strengthened commitment to future joint projects.
From 12 to 16 May, the University of Novo mesto hosted its International Week, which encouraged intercultural dialogue, academic exchange and collaboration among staff, students and international guests. The event reaffirmed our commitment to openness and international integration within the European Higher Education Area.
The central day of the programme—Wednesday, 14 May—offered a wide range of interactive activities that attracted considerable interest:
GoAbroad Journey provided an overview of universities, study programmes and cultural specifics from different countries. Participants learned about the experiences of international students and partners and explored mobility opportunities.
GoAbroad Fair transformed the social area into a colourful culinary festival, where visitors tasted traditional sweets and dishes from various countries. The Slovenian stand drew particular attention with its local delicacies.
The highlight of the day was the opening of the exhibition "The Human Body Under the Lens" in the university atrium. The event symbolically brought together science, art and education, with staff members showing strong support for interdisciplinary collaboration.
International Week demonstrated the value of collective engagement—of staff, students and partners—in building a university that is open to the world. We extend our sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the vibrant atmosphere and rich programme.
Together, we achieve more—beyond borders.
We are pleased to announce the successful conclusion of International Week at the University of Novo mesto, which brought together participants from eight countries—Turkey, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria and Germany. The event promoted international cooperation and knowledge exchange and offered valuable enrichment for both visiting professors and our students and staff.
At the final meeting, in addition to presenting various project ideas, we finalised the planning of the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP), which will take place this October.
Together, we built bridges between cultures, educational approaches and scientific perspectives, reinforcing our commitment to joint development and European values in higher education.
